Four Decades of Manufacturing Innovation: Rudy Vazquez, Partner Director of DMD
Discover 40 years of manufacturing evolution with Rudy Vazquez, Partner Director at DMD. Explore technological adaptation, cyclical challenges, and future perspectives.
Over the past 40 years, I have had the privilege of witnessing and actively participating in the evolution of the manufacturing industry in Mexico. This journey, which began in Juárez in the chemical sector, took me through various companies and sectors, culminating in my current position at DMD Custom Crates and Boxes. I want to share the experiences, challenges, and perspectives I have accumulated along this path.
My Journey in the Industry
My career started in the chemical industry, but I quickly found my true passion in the automotive sector. I worked on projects in Europe, South America, and various regions of Mexico, providing me with a global industry perspective. I held positions in leading companies such as Aptiv and Lear, and this experience opened doors for me to serve as deputy secretary enat the Secretaría de Innovación y Desarrollo Económico del Estado. Here, I focused on local economic development through workshops and specific projects.
My Arrival at DMD Custom Crates and Boxes
I lead DMD Custom Crates and Boxes, facing the challenge of spearheading excellence projects in a high-demand market. DMD represents a unique opportunity to apply all my experience in a company with a promising future.
Cyclical Challenges in the Manufacturing Industry
Throughout my career, I have observed cyclical challenges in the manufacturing industry, all aligned with technological advances and the need to adapt our local workforce. One of the most complex tasks has been adopting technologies from other countries and transferring that knowledge to the mindset of Mexican workers, considering the cultural diversity of our region. The Mexican workforce is a knowledge sponge, thanks to its extensive adaptability to the changes we have seen since the pandemic and those coming in the following years.
Future Challenges: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
Looking ahead, the most significant challenge will be adopting artificial intelligence in administrative and manufacturing processes. Companies leading in IA and robotics will have a competitive advantage globally.
At DMD, although many of our processes are artisanal due to our products’ specialized nature, we seek to advance technology for our standard products. Changing how we work with customers to implement more AI will be an exciting and necessary challenge.
My Conclusion
My career in the manufacturing industry has been a journey of constant learning and adaptation to technological and market changes. At each stage, I have sought improvement and guided my teams towards excellence. As we move towards a more technological era, I am excited to face the new challenges this brings and continue contributing to the growth and innovation in this vital sector.
