The second edition of the Mexican Wood Packaging Annual Conference and Exhibition, held in Guadalajara on September 5th and 6th, marked a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to excellence in this industry.

Our participation in this event allowed us to connect with business leaders, experts, and professionals worldwide, strengthening our network and providing us with invaluable insights into the latest trends and advancements in wood packaging.

What Is the Mexican Wood Packaging Annual Conference and Exhibition?

The second Mexican Wood Packaging Annual Conference and Exhibition, organized by the NWPCA (National Wooden Pallet and Container Association), is a highly relevant event in the Mexican industry. It has established itself as a leading platform that brings together key industry players to address critical issues and promote innovation in wood packaging.

This annual conference provides a unique space for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking in an environment conducive to industry growth. Participants can access valuable information on current trends, best practices, and the latest technologies related to the sector.

This event attracted more than 240 business leaders from 13 different countries, underscoring its significance in the wood packaging industry in Mexico. Attendance increased significantly by 73% compared to the previous edition, solidifying its position as a must-attend event on the industry calendar.

What Did We See at the Mexican Wood Packaging Annual Conference and Exhibition?

During these two days, the event offered a rich and diverse program that included activities designed to enhance the attendees’ experience.

  • Networking: The event provided an optimal platform for establishing strategic connections with industry leaders and professionals, facilitating idea exchange, and forming solid business relationships.
  • Exhibitions: Attendees had the opportunity to explore a variety of displays showcasing the latest innovations, products, and services in the field of wood packaging. This provided a comprehensive view of the industry and its possibilities.
  • Conferences: Distinguished speakers shared their knowledge and perspectives on relevant industry issues, from strategic planning to sustainability and the global macroeconomic outlook.

Throughout this second edition, presentations and keynote speeches were delivered by experts in various fields related to the industry:

“Nearshoring & Planificación Estratégica” por Néstor Eduardo García Romero, MBA

Néstor Eduardo García Romero, Director of Planning and Projects at the Department of Economic Development of the State of Jalisco provided a unique perspective on the importance of nearshoring strategy in the wood packaging industry. During his presentation, García Romero emphasized the relevance of strategic planning in business decision-making, especially in a constantly changing global context.

“Global Macroeconomic Perspective and the Mexican Market Landscape” by Omar Taboada, MBA

Omar Taboada, Director of Investment Analysis at Casa de Bolsa Citibanamex offered a comprehensive view of the global macroeconomic situation and its impact on the Mexican market. His presentation gave attendees valuable insights into global economic trends and how they affect the wood packaging industry in Mexico.

“Sustainability in the Industry” by Alejandra Sánchez Ayala, MBA

Alejandra Sánchez Ayala, Sustainability Officer at C&A Mexico, addressed one of today’s most pressing issues: sustainability in the wood packaging industry. Her presentation highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable practices in the manufacturing and use of wood packaging, as well as the opportunities this presents in terms of corporate social responsibility and competitiveness in the market.

“Unlocking Business Value with PDS: Current and Future Features” by Dr. Brad Gething

Dr. Brad Gething, Vice President of Science and Technology at NWPCA, offered a deep insight into how Platform Data Systems (PDS) technology can unlock business value in the wood packaging industry. He explored this technology’s current and future features, highlighting its potential to improve efficiency and decision-making in the sector.

Special Panel: “Wooden Pallets Globally”

A special panel brought together prominent experts, including Hilary Carr, PhD, Senior Director for Mexico and Latin America at NWPCA;  Dr. Brad Gething; y Jason Ortega, JD/MBA,Vice President of Public Affairs. This panel explored NWPCA’s global initiatives to promote the wood pallet industry. It addressed critical issues related to challenges and opportunities on an international scale.

Our Participation in the Event

Our participation in the event was essential to DMD Custom Crates & Boxes’ commitment to being an active member of the Mexican chapter of the NWPCA, representing the wood packaging manufacturing industry in the northern part of the country. During the event, we were represented by three prominent members of our team: Rudy VazquezPamela Mendoza and Cesar Pillado.

We participated in various presentations and conferences addressing critical industry topics. Some of the issues we explored included "Nearshoring & Strategic Plan“,  where we discussed the strategy of bringing production closer to key markets; “Macroeconomic Perspectives and the Mexican Market Overview,” providing a panoramic view of the local market; “Unlocking Business Value with PDS,” where we analyzed the current and future features of the Product Design System (PDS); and “Sustainability in NWPCA: Why It Matters,” where we discussed the importance of sustainability in our industry.

Regarding products and services, we showcased our expertise in wood sawing and wood packaging assembly, highlighting our ability to offer high-quality solutions to our customers.

One of the critical interactions we had during the event was collaborating with members of the Mexican chapter and international members of the NWPCA. This collaboration allowed us to understand the opportunities emerging in the global specialized packaging field, providing valuable insights for the future.

As we have recounted, the series of conferences and connections made throughout the event were of great value to our company, aligning with our focus on consolidating a strong and sustainable supply chain. Without a doubt, we look forward to the next edition of this event in the city of Querétaro, scheduled for September 2024.
